In his debut in the fall of 1979 Harper rushed for 126 yards against Oregon State. He is one of six freshmen tailbacks in USC history to rush for 100 yards in a game. Harper did this in his first game with the Trojans.
Harper was drafted by the Los Angeles Rams in 1984. After an unsuccessful training-camp tryout with the Rams, he spent one year with the Rams and then headed north to play in the Canadian Football League. He returned to the NFL in 1986 to play with the New York Jets, where he started on special teams for four years while playing wide receiver behind former all-pros Al Toon and Wesley Walker. Harper retired from professional football in 1990.
Harper graduated from the University of Southern California in 1984 with a BS Degree in Marketing/Management. He put his degree to good use after retiring from professional sports. Harper pursued technology and gained 20 years of experience as an Information Technology Sales Executive. Most recently, Harper has joined the UFL's Sacramento Mountain Lions as Director of Community Outreach. He has been married to his wife Cheryl for 23 years and they live in Roseville. He has four children: Jazmin, Joslyn, Jarad and Jada.
